Spelling Sort 20 Adding suffix -able
2
Adding able to words ending in e
Sometimes when you add the suffix –able to words that end in e you drop the e before adding –able. Usually when words end in ce or ge you do not drop the e when adding –able. This occurs because if a word ends in ce or ge dropping the e would change the pronunciation of the word. It would change the soft c and g into hard consonant sounds.
