2 Introduction

3 Our Project Goal: to find out what makes a story great Process:
Research what others think are the most important elements Explore them ourselves

4 THE RULES The character must be relatable.
A good plot must circle around a driving question. This is something that keeps the reader engaged. The character must make decisions. A coincidence may begin the conflict, but the character’s choice must be what ends it. Settings should not be over- or under-described. They should be treated like a character. The setting should be somewhat familiar, but also interesting. A great story is not predictable. You never know how it will end until it does. This keeps the reader engaged. Good stories are based on the author's world in subtle ways. This makes the story feel familiar, like it could happen in real life... if real life was a different time or place. But it could still exist within this universe. Characters must have flaws. No real person is perfect, nor is any real person 100% on one side or another. The same has to be true of the characters, otherwise they feel stereotypical or fake.

5 Intro to Our Animation Process: Basic Plot Basic Conflict

7 Changes We Made Making the story better

8 Choosing a Storyline Teamwork or individual competition?
The competition option gave us more opportunities for conflict. It also gave the characters a clearer goal.

9 Trimming the Cast Originally we were going to have seven characters and no main character. We were going to bounce around each character and show how they interact. But then we chose to go to four characters with one main character. This was to make it easier to relate to the characters and give the story more focus and flow.

10 Other Changes Wacky’s (the blue character’s) personality: Originally he was going to be more sympathetic and friendly. We made him mean because it helps create sympathy for Slappy (the red one). The early trophy scene: We added this to establish a connection between the character and his goal.

11 Color This was more artistic and not necessary, but it enhances the story. It draws the audience’s attention to the characters, not the background or side characters. It emphasizes the important parts of the story.

12 Questions, Comments, Concerns, Points for the good of the order?
Ask one, Ask all. 
