1 Surface Area and Volume
Mrs. Hubbard Room 152

2 Volume Volume is the amount of space inside an object.
Volume is measured in cubic units, since there are three dimensions to account for. Example: 30 cubic units 30 units

3 Calculating Volume You can Calculate the Volume of a cube by multiplying the length x width x height Length = 4 Width = 4 Height = 4 Volume = 4x4x4 = = 16 x 4 = 64 cubic units

4 Surface Area Surface Area is the total amount of area that covers a three-dimensional object. Think about the total amount of wrapping paper it takes to cover an object assuming you don’t overlap any of the paper.

5 Calculating S.A Calculating the surface area of an object is easy, but it does take some time. You can calculate surface area by finding the area of each face of the object, then adding all the areas together. Your units for S.A are square units since you are measuring Area.

6 Surface Area = 96 square units
Let’s Try It! The cube has 6 sides. So, when we find the AREA of one side or face, we can just multiply that number by 6. The front face has dimensions, 4 units by 4 units. So, the Area of the front face is equal to 4x4= 16 square units. 16 square units x 6 = 96 Surface Area = 96 square units

7 Circles Diameter- the distance from one side of a circle to the other side of the circle. This length must travel through the mid-point.

8 Circles Radius- the distance from the midpoint of a circle to the an outside edge.

9 Circles: Circumference
Circumference- the distance around the outside of a circle. Another way of saying this is the perimeter of a circle. This can be found by using the formula: Circumference = π x 2 x r π = pi = 3.14 r = radius of the circle

10 Circles: Area The Area of a Circle can be found using the formula: π x r ²

11 Circles: Circumference π x 2 x r or π x d Area: π x r²
