Christmas Celebration in Kenya

KENYA In KENYA, the churches are decorated with balloons, ribbons, flowers and green plants. Christmas dinner is often a barbecue with family members traveling from far away to be together again.

Often a group will go singing house to house, usually on Christmas eve in urban areas. The occupants of each house will give a gift of some kind (often money) to the singers, then on Christmas Day, the singers will present whatever was given to the church they attend.

There are a large number of people staying in the rural areas of Kenya and therefore around Christmas, all relatives and family members from all parts of the country head towards their homes in the villages to be with their families and enjoy.

Christmas in Kenya is called 'Krismasi' in the local Swahili dialect and the religious feeling is very predominant in all corners of the country. Churches, shopping malls and homes are decorated for Christmas and these decorations often include balloons, ribbons, green plants and trees to pose as the Christmas trees.
