The Apollo 11 Mission By Lucy Savage

Introduction The Apollo 11 was the rocket that landed the first humans on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped on the moon but the pilot Michael Collins did not make it. The three astronauts launched on July 16, 1969 to the moon. They launched the rocket at Kennedy Space Centre. They stayed on the lunar surface for 21½ hours.

Why go to the moon In 1961, President John F. Kennedy challenged scientists to get to the moon before the decade was out. America wanted to be the first nation to walk on the moon beating the U. S. S. R. who became the first nation in space when Yuri Gagarin went into space on the 12th April 1961.

Neil Armstrong Neil Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930 in Wapakoneta, Ohio , united states. famous quote “one small step for man , one giant leap for mankind”. He was the first person to walk on the moon. His first space flight was the Gemini 8 and he was a command pilot in March 1966. He died in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 25, 2012. Other famous quotes were: “Houston, tranquillity base here. The eagle has landed” “Mystery creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man’s desire to understand”.

Buzz Aldrin Buzz Aldrin was born on January 20th Glen ridge New Jersey U.S. He was the second person to walk on the moon. Buzz Aldrin is a former U.S Air force officer. His other mission apart from Apollo 11 was Gemini 12. He was the lunar module pilot for Apollo 11 Buzz Aldrin’s full name is Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr. His parents are called Marion moon, Edwin Eugene Aldrin Sr.

The man who almost went to the moon
The pilot for the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. He stayed in the command module whilst Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin went in the Lunar module to the surface of the moon. He flew into space twice. He worked as a test pilot for the US Air Force. Michael Collins
