The ruby laser was the first successful light laser
The laser first intended to be used for warfare

3. 1961, peace corps founded Their goal is to promote world peace
Officially established March

All members are volunteers
Africa volunteers – 39%
South America volunteers – 24%
Europe volunteers – 18%
Asia – 9%

5. 1962, Cuban missile crisis The missiles in Cuba belonged to Russia
All were nuclear
The crisis took 13 days
No violence occurred
No casualties

6. 1963, “I have a dream” Supposedly Martin “winged the speech”
I have a dream was not the original title
It lasted 17 minutes
200,000 people were present
Millions watched on TV
It was ranked top speech ever

8. The Beatles The band consisted of 4 guys Ringo Paul John George
They were the most popular band of all time
600 million copies of their albums have been sold

9. 1965, the Vietnam war It was the longest U.S. conflict (16 years)
It was called the chopper war for all the helicopters that were used
2,338 men went missing and never came home from the war
Millions died on both sides
Many movies were made about the war

10. 1966, Japan's bullet trains They are only operated in Japan
They move faster than 270 miles per hour
They move so fast because the rails are mainly strait
All rails run through Tokyo
They can cover 200 miles at top speed in about 2 minutes ( top speed is about 500 miles per hour but with passengers they are allowed no more then 270 miles per hour)

11. 1967, the first super bowl
The first super bowl was between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs
The game was held in Los Angeles
A total of 60 million people watched the game
47% of the fans pulled for the packers
53% of the fans pulled for the chiefs

12. 1968, MLK killed! He was shot with a 30-06 caliber rifle
It was at a hotel in Memphis
The bullet severed his spinal column
James Earl ray was guilty in trial and was sentenced to 99 years in prison
He actually died in a hospital 15 minutes after being shot

13. 1969, Apollo 11 The Apollo 11 crew consisted of three astronauts
Neil Armstrong (commander)
Buzz Aldrin (Lunar module pilot)
Michael Collins (command module pilot)
The mission was to explore the moons surface and extensively photograph the lunar surface as well as bring back samples
The mission took 4 days
