1 IHE PCD Nomenclature and WCM
IHE Patient Care Devices Face-to-Face, San Diego, CA April 20, 2016 Paul Schluter, GE Healthcare

2 Topics IEEE Std 11073-10101 and NIST RTMMS Update
IEEE P b – new terminology NIST RTMMS – accelerate numeric code assignments WCM (with discussion summary)

3 IEEE Std 11073-10101a – approved and published!
Approved by IEEE-SA Standards Board on December 5, 2015 Published on December 9th and uploaded to NIST RTMMS NIST RTMMS has been updated with a nomenclature and was used for limited testing at IHE NA Connectathon. Co-constraints (units, enums and sites) for new a terms have been uploaded to NIST RTMMS will be available shortly, pending final review and verification. The new second-generation harmonized Rosetta, hRTM2, will combine the ‘old’ and ‘new’ 10101a terms and co-constraints, and use aECG lead offsets  65. Co-constraints for several PHD devices will also be included, based on published PHD and -104xx specializations.

4 IEEE P b [in progress] Extends ISO/IEEE Std :2004 and a-2015: Infusion pumps and infusion events (IHE PCD PIV and IPEC) Ventilator mode, high-frequency ventilation, annotations NMT Neuromuscular transmission (level of neuromuscular block) Finalize the WCM waveform attributes (or just use aECG) IHE PCD Device Management Control (DMC) IHE PCD Real-Time Location Services (LS) Generalized Signal Quality Index Dialysis Surgical and OR devices (by OR.NET at Additional observation identifiers and settings Note: Inclusion of content in draft standard is contingent on timely completion.

5 New Term REFID and Code Assignments
Background for this discussion, motivated by the desirability of having numeric code assignments at the earliest possible time. Use NIST RTMMS as the authoritative numeric code generator for new terms to guarantee non-overlap between multiple organizations, e.g. IEEE 11073, IHE PCD DEC, PCHA. If the proposed Reference ID, Disc, Part::Code is discarded during balloting, it is retired as a “zombie term” and cannot be re-used. Is this a good idea? Yes, if we can keep the number of “zombie terms” to a small number (< 5 – 10% of new terms defined). No, we could end up with a ‘free-for-all’ if this is uncontrolled without any degree of editorial review and curation.

6 Waveform Content Module (WCM)
Several simplifications have been proposed, balloted and approved, but need to be incorporated into WCM supplement. Signed decimal integer waveform sample values only NM array, carat delimited, invalid values included as NM Invalid values defined in separate OBXs OBX-6 may specify UCUM with rational-fraction scale factor e.g. 10.mV/4096 = uV (4096 A/D counts per 10 mV) otherwise, use CSU - Channel Sensitivity and Units for MDC units Need to restart WCM update effort, draft completed by June 2016. Robert Franklin, Brian Witkowski, Oliver Coeffic, Scott Eaton, Chris Courville, John Rhoads, John Durso, Ken Fuchs (previous editor and Paul Schluter (editor). [Paul will contact Robert and Brian to get things started.] Changes will be made by editing with change tracking, no CPs.
