General Proposal Programme
Strip Module Assembly & QA (WP2) Strip Stave Assembly & QA (WP4) Assembly, Integration & Internal Services Design (WP4) Strip & Pixel Test & Systems Support (WP3) Should show completion of R&D/Prototyping and have a clear transition to production readiness. Main change (WP4) is to create a dedicated “Integration” work-package Integration means Design, services, stave insertion, etc Pointer towards involvement at CERN for final assembly & test of barrel tracker

3: Strip Stave Assembly & QA
Specification and final design of all components which required to build staves cores and attach modules. Development of stave core assembly and module mounting tooling, stave life-cycle handling frames and electrical and thermo-mechanical QA systems. The assumption is that there will be two stave assembly clusters, however reception testing / manufacture of components (eg. Tapes, EOS cards, cooling circuits, etc) might be distributed. Tapes Development of 130nm tapes as required. Production and procurement. Testing. Provision of tapes for prototype work. SP and DC-DC. Short staves and full size. EoS and Optical Interface EoS ‘card’ development, integration onto stave, including GBT for both strips and pixels. Core Assembly Skin, close-out and ‘honeycomb’ or equivalent manufacture. Prototype development for lowest mass. Assembly of core including co-curing, cooling and EoS attachment. Assembly includes mounting components and alignment system parts; Supply of stave cores to the development programme. Module Mounting Development of equipment and procedures for attaching and removing modules to and from staves. Testing and Shipping Design of life-cycle shipping and test system. Procurement and provision of components for these needed as part of the programme. Production Preparation Preparation for serial production of above items, including manufacture of multiple tool sets and formal specification of procedures, division of work, QA and organisation. Strip Electrical and Mechanical QA Development of appropriate handling and QA procedures for handling and storage of raw materials (pre-preg, glue, ), assembly sequences (curing, annealing) and test procedures associated with ensuring assembled products meet specification..

4: Assembly, Integration & Internal Services Design
Development and demonstration of the techniques needed during assembly of staves to the macro support structures. Design and feasibility demonstration of the end-of barrel region and the service module. Includes tooling and preparation for build. Barrel Assembly Sequence / feasibility Development of assembly sequence including welding, end insertion. Includes development and a mock-up of end insertion. Barrel End Region layout Design Design of pipe layout ,interlinks, cable routing, fibre paths, connector locations. Pixel Disc Services and Integration Design Definition and design of interface to global mechanics. Layout of services to PPX Strip Service Module Design/mock-up Design and mock up of the service module Strip Assembly Tooling Tooling associated with assembly of the service modules, end-insertion, connection of service module to the barrel. Assembly Production Preparation Preparation for serial production of above items, including manufacture of multiple tool sets and formal specification of procedures, division of work, QA and organisation. Strip Cooling Pipe definition; qualification; bending; jointing including welding methods; connectors tests. Provision of parts for prototype work. Titanium and Stainless pipes. Provision of any plant needed. Strip Alignment Conceptual design and layout of weak-mode alignment system. Prototype design, fabrication, procurement and test.
