1 How a Network Works The network in this presentation belongs to Informa Software, Maitland FL

2 Core network switches This is where the majority of network traffic will be directed and serves to connect the most accessed devices on the network. These are typically high bandwith and high redundancy devices designed for maximum network throughput and uptime.

3 Network patch panel Ethernet cabling is run from end user locations such as offices, cubicles, and conference rooms and terminated into these patch panels, providing an easier method of connecting those locations to the network.

4 Edge switches These switches are used to connect end user devices (computer workstations, printers, etc.) to the network core.

5 Network servers Network servers allow sharing of information to multiple people in an organization, typically corporate documents, , Internet websites, and other network services.

6 Network operating systems
Informa Software utilizes the Microsoft Windows platform for their network, including Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, and Windows 7 desktops. They also utilize Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Security 2010 and Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010 to provide needed network services for its users.

7 Uninterruptable power supplies
Uninterruptable power supplies allow networking equipment and servers to continue to run in the event of a power outage preventing network downtime and potential damage to the equipment.
