Lessons for September 13- Stolt Pd 1, 3, 5
All classes will do section 3.4 on writing the equations of parallel and perpendicular lines. (Pd 5, we will finish 3.4 on Friday)
2
What do you notice about the lines that are parallel
What do you notice about the lines that are parallel? What about the lines that are perpendicular?
4
Skip the stuff on directed line segments, I will go over those on Friday. Check answer in book
5
Video Lesson: Find the equation of the line parallel to the given line that goes through the given point. Click to view lesson. To get the slope, sometimes you need to put the equation in slope intercept form first!
6
Find the equation of the line perpendicular to the given line and goes through a given point.
Remember that perpendicular lines have slopes that are opposite reciprocals, means one is positive and one is negative, and you flip- flop the fraction. If needed, find the reciprocals of the following numbers: A) -2/3 B) 5 C) 5/4 D) 1/2
7
Answers A) -2/3; 3/2 B) 5; -1/5 C) 5/4; -4/5 D) ½; -2
8
Review of how to get an equation into slope intercept form to find the slope
Put 2x + 3y = 6 into slope intercept form and state the slope. Video explanation of the solution A) What would the slope of the line parallel to this line be? B) What would the slope of the line perpendicular to this line be?
9
The equation of the line is y = -2/3 x +2
The equation parallel to it will have the SAME slope, -2/3 The equation perpendicular to it will have a slope that is opposite and reciprocal, which would be +3/2
10
Do example 3 in your groups
12
Finding the equation of the line perpendicular to a given line.
Example lesson if needed
13
Do example 4 in your groups
14
Solution to example 4
15
All classes: Do section 3
All classes: Do section all If you can figure out directed line segments, do them! If not, I will explain on Friday (they are required) If you get done with everything, start working on the review guide!
