1 Welcome to Year 1 Maths Morning
September 2017

2 Maths in Year One Maths is taught daily as a lesson
We try and incorporate maths in everything we do Sometimes children will work independently, sometimes in a group or sometimes with an adult There are daily maths meetings which involve quick pace revision of topics already taught. Children sing songs and chant rhymes to learn things such as days of the week, months of the year as well as number based skills

3 End of Year Objectives Problem Solving Reasoning Fluency Number
Measurement Geometry

4 End of Year Objectives Number includes number and place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and fractions. It is very important that children have a good understanding of NUMBER and PLACE VALUE as without this they won’t understand the other aspects of number.

5 Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract - CPA
We teach the children using objects (concrete) We give the children lots of opportunity to use different objects to understand the concept We introduce pictures to represent objects (pictorial) We give the children lots of time to practice the concept using pictures. We finally introduce the abstract level, where children use numbers and symbols. If children are struggling, we go back to the concrete and pictorial representational levels. We will always give examples during every lesson of the concrete, pictorial and abstract
