1 Jack and Hoist Safety

2 Lifts, Jacks and Safety Stands
The safe use of jacks and floor stands can prevent many unnecessary accidents. This device should be placed at designated lift points.

3 Many of these accidents are caused by:
Vehicle placed incorrectly on a lift or floor jack. Failure of a floor jack or lift to support the vehicles weight. Vehicle slipping off from a floor jack due to vehicle movement or imbalance. Failure to use safety stands, or incorrect placement of safety stands. Placing a jack or safety stand at a lift point other than the designated vehicle lift point.

4 Vehicle Lifts Always use the manufacture’s recommended lift points when lifting a vehicle. Use of any other point can cause damage to the vehicle or slip off the hoist. The vehicle service manual will give the correct lifting points.

5 Floor Jacks and Safety stands
When using a floor jack, position it properly under the vehicle. Do not allow the jack to slip out. When using safety stands, place the stands and the vehicle on a flat area of the floor were the vehicles weight can not make the stands sink.

6 Engine Crane (Cherry picker)
A crane is used to pick-up and move heavy objects. Example a technician will use a crane to remove an engine from a vehicle. If the load is too heavy or held too far from the body of the crane it could fall over.

7 Transmission jack This is used to support a transmission when it is serviced or replaced. Removing a transmission changes the vehicles center of gravity. They are very similar to a floor jack but it is only used to hold or support a transmission.

8 Pneumatic Tools A pneumatic tool (air tool) is a tool that is powered by compressed air. Air tools are labor saving devices. These tools include: impact guns, impact wrench, and air blower, cut off wheels.

9 Impact Gun provides a fast means of installing or removing threaded fasteners. An impact gun/ratchet uses compressed air to rotate the driving head.
