Using the above data, create a column or bar graph on slide 7. Use these steps once you have your cursor on slide 7: 1. Click Chart Tools in Microsoft PowerPoint select Insert > Chart. 2. Choose column or bar. 3. An excel spreadsheet will automatically appear. For this graph only 3 categories are needed (gold, sliver and bronze) and only 1 “series” is needed (number of medals).

6 4. Click on the small blue triangle at the bottom right corner and drag it to delete all unnecessary rows and columns (drag the small triangle to position B4). 5. Where it reads “Series 1” type your heading/title. 6. Where it reads “Category 1” type Gold then type Silver in “Category 2” and so on. 7. Under your title and next to the medals type the number of medals for each category, e.g. next to gold type 3.

8 Changing the style of chart
Look at all the different types of charts listed in Microsoft PowerPoint by clicking on insert > chart, e.g. line, area, doughnut (but don’t select one yet). 1. Copy your chart and paste it onto slide 9. 2. Click on the chart itself so that “Chart Tools” at the top of your screen is highlighted in green. 3. Click on design > Change chart type. 4. Scroll down and click on another style of chart that you could use to present this data. 5. Your chart will automatically change to the new style.
