7 Adjectives Adjectives usually come before words they modify but sometimes an adjective comes after the word it modifies. Example: The dog is gentle.

8 Proper Adjectives A proper adjective is formed from a proper noun and begins with a capital letter. Examples: Japanese islands Mayan Art American flag

9 Comparison Adjectives can also show degrees of comparison.
The comparative and superlative forms show degrees of adjective comparison.

10 The Comparative The comparative form of an adjective is used when comparing two things. Most adjectives add er to compare two things. Examples: Tall----Taller Great---Greater Small---Smaller

11 The Comparative Some adjectives with two or more syllables use more or less to compare. Example: graceful---more graceful beautiful—more beautiful

12 The Superlative The superlative form is used when comparing three or more things. Most adjectives add est to compare three or more things. Examples: Tall---Taller---Tallest Great---Greater---Greatest Small---Smaller---Smallest

13 The Superlative Some adjectives with two or more syllables use most.
Examples: wonderful—more wonderful—most wonderful Athletic—more athletic—most athletic

14 Irregular forms of Comparison
Some adjectives are irregular and do not follow the rules of comparison. Examples: Good— Better (comparative) Best (superlative) Bad--- Worse (comparative) Worst (superlative)

15 Identify the adjectives
The smell of the wild grass was strong. I have a free ticket for the last game. The Egyptian mummies are on display on the first floor.

16 Adjective Activity Think of 10 adjectives that begin with the same letter as your first name and that describe you. Make a poster using these adjectives. Be creative, descriptive, and colorful!
