So… There are some verbs that can be used with both a gerund and an infinitive with to. Unfortunately, some verbs are evil and annoying and change their meaning if they use an infinitive or a gerund.

Meanwhile… Some verbs can be used either with –ing or an infinitive without changing the meaning. Like, love, hate, prefer, can’t stand, can’t bear, start, begin. British prefer –ing. Americans prefer to+infinitive. If the verb PREFER is negative to+infinitive I prefer not to tell you. With BEGIN, CONTINUE and START in a continuous tense to+infinitive It’s starting to rain.
