Everything within the frame e.g. Colours, Props, Costumes
Throughout the sequence almost all of the shots are dim (as demonstrated in the first two shots on the right). This could be to communicate the atmosphere of the battle and could also be to show the general mood of how the characters would be feeling - miserable, upset etc. The only part of the sequence that is significantly brighter than the rest of the sequence is the duel between Harry and Voldemort, leading to Voldemort’s death (demonstrated by last image). This could be to communicate how important the duel is and also that the outcome of the duel would be positive.

When Harry and Voldemort first begin to duel the light on Harry’s face is very dull; then when Neville destroys the Snake with the sword (this highlights the significance of this prop) and they continue to duel the light on Harry’s face is much brighter and this could suggest that it is because he knows he is now able to kill Voldemort - that the end is near which is why the whole battle began, the future is brighter for him. In this shots we can also see his clothing, which is dirty and ripped - we can tell it has been well worn and this makes it more realistic that he has been in a battle as his clothes are bound to be well worn if he has taken part in a battle. Also he has a dirty face and a number of cuts which too convince us that he has been in the battle.

The shot below from the sequence allows us to see the aftermath of the battle that has taken place and the devastation left by it. We can see debris and there are also a number of dead bodies around the courtyard - the fact that these bodies have not yet been moved shows us how careless and hectic the battle has been. Also, when the camera pans to both Harry and Voldemort's wands it enables the audience to see how much of an important part these props must play in the film as the characters desperately reach for them.

The majority of shots allow the audience to see the devastation caused by the battle and as we see a few different locations (in the castle, the courtyard, the surroundings of the castile etc) it enables the audience to see the scale of the battle that has taken place. The shot shown on the below also allows us to see the significance of the sword which has just effectively aided the death of Voldemort. The following shot allows us to see the huge effect the prop has just had.

When the duel ends and the wand transfers to Harry it again shows the importance of the wands in this film - it confirms the end of Voldemort’s life - and this shows the huge effect that the props have had in this sequence in the final film.

Cinematography Framing and Composition, shot sizes and angles and camera movement The sequence begins with a Crane shot as it begins above the characters and gradually becomes closer. It could be to communicate that Harry is vulnerable because he is cornered by Voldemort.
