4 Who did rule? Up to 410 the Romans ruled England – then they left.
The British Isles were carved up into many Kingdoms, some of which had been in existence before and during the Roman occupation. From 800 Vikings invaders from Denmark and Sweden invaded – and many of them stayed.

6 Task Using the information sheet you are going to produce a ‘Rough Guide’ to Dark Ages Britain (Britain before 1066), You will create the guide under a number of headings: Who ruled Dark Age Britain? How many people were there? How rich was England? Were people religious? How do we know all this? Illustrate your guide using source D and E

8 Homework Archaeological finds are a major source of evidence for the Dark ages. Look for some information on the Sutton Hoo burial, explain what information this may provide for historians about the early dark ages. There is an information sheet on Sutton Hoo on the online classroom.
