Springboard – pages “Second Read” Answer questions #3 – 5 together as a class. Write down the answers together below the question. “Working from the Text” (with the partner behind you) – 5 minutes. On your own, fill in the blank for “Check Your Understanding.”

Do Writing to Sources: Explanatory Text – write name, date, and period at the upper right! Write a 6 sentence paragraph . Begin with the claim you wrote for “Check Your Understanding.” Include direct quotations (properly introduce/punctuate) from the text to support your claim. EX: Frost wrote, “But if I had to perish twice…” (Frost 104). 11. Anaphora – repetition of the same word or group of words at the beginnings of two or more clauses or lines. 12. Juxtaposition – arrangement of 2 or more things for comparison. 13. Flashback – Interruption or transition to a time before the current events in a narrative. 14. Denotation – precise meaning of a word (dictionary definition). 15.
