3 Why do your choices matter?
Making the right choices is key to every student reaching their potential in the three areas we value most at Reigate School: Academic, Personal, Social.

4 Why do your choices matter?
1. Academic Potential We want all students to achieve the very best grades here at Reigate School. A course you are already good at is a key indicator of future success. Please check previous reports and take the opportunity to attend the: Year 9 Parents Evening next Thursday 12th .

5 Why do your choices matter?
2. Personal Potential We want to ensure that the choices made do not limit the future aspirations of our students. If your child is considering university, please take the time to research the courses they are interested in. Some universities stipulate which subjects as well which grades for GCSE and A-Level. Use UCAS.com as an excellent starting point for research in this area.

2. Personal Potential Finally students should make sure that they… Check with the FE college of your choice as to which subjects you need to take your chosen A-Levels etc. Look on UCAS.com to see entry requirements for degree courses you may be interested in.

7 2. Personal Potential The English Baccalaureate (EBacc)
Why does it matter? 2. Personal Potential The English Baccalaureate (EBacc) Introduced by the Department for Education in 2011. If you achieve a Grade C or above in the following subjects at GCSE you have achieved the Ebacc: English Language, Mathematics, Double Science which could include Computer Science, a Classical or Modern Foreign Language, Geography OR History. This is NOT a qualification or compulsory but it may become so for some degree courses in the future.

8 2. Personal Potential The English Baccalaureate (EBacc)
Why does it matter? 2. Personal Potential The English Baccalaureate (EBacc) All students have the opportunity to take the EBacc at Reigate School. However, unlike many schools we do not force any students to take this group of subjects. This is because we believe that students are more successful when they enjoy their courses.

9 Why does it matter? 3. Social Potential We also want students to be happy during Key Stage Four at Reigate School. It is going to be difficult for them to be happy if they are taking courses they dislike. They are almost certainly more likely to achieve a higher grade with a subject they enjoy.

10 Why does it matter? BUT… Please ask your child why you enjoy it…
3. Social Potential BUT… Please ask your child why you enjoy it… They may not be with the same friendship group or have the same teacher(s) in Year 10. The content may also be different so they need to talk to the relevant teachers.

11 Choosing Options All students have a choice of two pathways.
One pathway is always the EBacc. The other pathway allows more freedom however… If your child is in Set 1 we do and have always required them to take a Modern Foreign Language.
