2. What institutions deal wtih Road Safety in Chile?
The NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR TRANSPORT SAFETY (CONASET) is an interministerial body created through Supreme Decree No. 223 of 27 December, 1993 as an advisory commission for the President of the Republic in road safety issues. It is made up of the following Ministries: Transport and Telecommunications, Public Works Secretariat General of the Government, Interior, Housing and Urban Development, Education, General Secretariat of the Presidency, Health, Justice and the National Policeof Chile
Function
To implement National Road Safety Policy
Objectives
To develop ethical road safety behaviour in all road users: pedestrians, drivers and passengers.
To manage to keep traffic accident risks factors under control.
To encourage actions that contribute to keeping road accident risks factors and their consequences under control, in order to reduce mortality and accident rates.

3. SUCCESSFUL ROAD SAFETY measures in Chile
Supreme Decree No. 176/Dec. 2006, which regulates seats for children of less than four in Light vehicles.
Supreme Decree No. 175/ Dec. 2006, which regulates the technical safety features of new interurban buses.
Amendment of Supreme Decree No. 22 to establish the compulsory use of daytime lights on non-urban roads . (2006)
The obligatory nature of wearing a safety belt in rear seats of light vehicles manufactured after 2002.
The obligatory nature of wearing a safety belt on school transport vehicles manufactured after 2007, on all seats .
Obligation for cyclists to wear protective helmets in urban areas.
Increasing safety standards on light passenger and commercial vehicles .

Investment in road safety: In conjunction with the Department of Road Safety of the Ministry of Public Works (PW), a scheme has been started to improve concessionaire routes between the regions of Coquimbo and Bío Bío.
Scheme to improve safety on existing rural roads: This scheme involves improving existing safety equipment up to the minimum standard required for each type of road.
Scheme for dealing with black spots with low cost corrective measures: Its objective is to promote measures to deal with black spots as a permanent activity in municipalities .
Safety Work on first generation routes authorised. This project is being coordinated with the PW Planning Department, together with other inspection bodies. The aim is to improve road safety standards on roads built in the 90s.
