Biomes
2
Biomes Biome: Large regions of earth that has specific kinds of organisms Rainfall and Temp determine the plant life
3
Tundra Coldest of all biomes-frozen most of the year
There are no trees, very few plants can survive in this environment Little precipitation and short growing seasons
4
Coniferous forest Forest of conifers (pine trees)
Conifers have needles which have a waxy layer to conserve water Average rainfall cm Temp- -10C to 14C
5
Desert Rainfall is less than 25cm/year Soil is sandy and rocky
Plants and animals are adapted to low moisture ( Cactus, nocturnal animals
6
Deciduous Forest Has trees that have leaves Rainfall: 75-125cm
These trees lose their leaves to conserve water during the winter Rainfall: cm Temp: 6C to 28C
7
Grassland Dominated by grass (not a lot of trees or large shrubs)
Rainfall 25-75cm Temp 0C to 25C
8
Tropical rain forest Very hot and humid Supports a large biodiversity
Rainfall cm Temp 25C to 28C
