Genealogies in Genesis
From Adam to Noah (Gen 5; linear) From the Sons of Noah to the Nations (Gen 10; segmented) Shem is listed last in this one, because his line will be continued in Gen 11. From Shem to Abram (Gen 11:10-32; linear) Abram of course will become the father of the nation of Israel and the original party to God’s covenant with His people. Gen 11 ends with Terah and expands on his life a bit. Recall that we drew from both Gen 5 and 11 to construct an estimate of the age of the earth. We see a steady decline in lifespan after the flood...most lived at least 900 years pre-flood, less than 500 after.

Sojourns of Abraham Shechem and Bethel were Abram’s first stops (Gen 12:6-8). He continued on to the Negev and on down into Egypt (12:9-10).
