1 Kings 17 The Powers of Heaven

Who is that?

D&C 110: Kirtland Temple, April 3, 1836
Elijah D&C 110: Kirtland Temple, April 3, 1836 What is significant about that date? That weekend was the Jewish Passover. For centuries Jewish families have left an empty chair at their Passover feasts, anticipating Elijah’s return. Elijah has returned—not to a Passover feast, but to the Lord’s temple in Kirtland.

Elijah “On that very day Elijah did enter – not in the home of the Jews to partake of the Passover with them – but he appeared in the house of the Lord in Kirtland, and there bestowed his keys to bring to pass the very things for which these Jews, assembled in their homes, were seeking” (Doctrines of Salvation, 2: ).

Elijah “As members of Christ’s restored Church, we have the covenant responsibility to search out our ancestors and provide for them the saving ordinances of the gospel. … For these reasons we do family history research, build temples, and perform vicarious ordinances. For these reasons Elijah was sent to restore the sealing authority that binds on earth and in heaven” (“The Hearts of the Children Shall Turn,” Ensign orLiahona, Nov. 2011, 25–26).

Elijah’s Miracles Faith is acting on truth 1 Kings 17:1-9 The Ravens
Meets the widow in 1 Kings 17:10-16 How is the woman’s choice similar to some of the choices we have to make?   Why do you think it is important for us to first demonstrate faith before we receive the Lord’s promised blessings? DEFINE “FAITH” “He has a lot of faith” “She is so faithful” “How do I increase my faith? MY DEFINITION OF FAITH: Faith is acting on truth VIDEO

Elijah’s Miracles Have you ever felt like you were doing your best to exercise faith and obey the words of the Lord and His prophets, but you still experienced challenges in your life? 1 Kings 17:17-24 What feelings do you think Elijah might have had when this happened? What did the woman say she now knew after all that she had experienced? What principle can we learn?

“The barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail…”
