Did you know that… The intention of this presentation is to show some “hidden” (but documented) functions of TWS/Graph. Batch Mode (BIF) Change list layout Complex search operations Display more information in netplan symbols Advanced selection
3
Did you know that… Export netplans to JPEG Create joblist
.. You can create netplan, lists and even AD docu in batch mode? Export netplans to JPEG Create joblist Modify layout of joblist Create AD Docu
4
Batch Interface Example: Create application and operation netplans in JPG format. What do you need? BIF file (=command script) Logon file (userid and password) Application list (selection) Windows command line (to start execution)
5
1. BIF file The BIF file is a simple text file: LOGON file
Application list Netplan type Output file Next output file Switch netplan type
6
2. LOGON file The LOGON file contains the logon parameters. Because of security it is encrypted. TCP IP configuration User Id How to create a LOGON file? Password
7
LOGON file The LOGON file can be created from TWS/Graph’s login window: Click here to create the LOGON file
8
3. LIST file The Application list includes the name of the applications that should be part of the netplan: Wildcards are allowed!
9
4. Command line Start TWS/Graph from the command line:
TWSGRAPH /CMD=BIF file
10
5. Resulting JPG TWS/Graph has created the JPGs:
11
BIF Example: AD Operation List
This BIF creates an operation list from the application description DATABASE=AD LOGON=mylogon.lgn LIST_FILE=all.txt LIST_ALL=output.htm
12
BIF Example: AD Operation List
The resulting HTML file:
13
Did you know that… Select colomns and change order of columns
.. You can modify the layout of all lists displayed in TWS/Graph? Select colomns and change order of columns
14
Select columns and change order
The layout of all lists is define in TWSGRAPH.CFG: Edit TWSGRAPH.CFG Search for LIST_POS= Locate the correct statement LIST_POS=AD_APP_ … Application Description Applications List_POS=CP_OP_...Current Plan Operations Use Docu or TWSGRAPH.LBL to get variable names Insert, delete or change the order of variables Save TWSGRAPH.CFG
15
Select columns and change order
key Variables, one for each column. First column is application id (ADRID), second column is Application description (ADRDESCR)
16
TWSGRAPH.LBL - variables
Labels (as shown in all TWS/Graph dialogs)
17
BIF Example: AD Operation List
This BIF creates a lists with all operations that are predecessor to a critical jobs: DATABASE=AD NETPLAN_TYPE=OP LOGON=mylogon.lgn LIST_FILE=all.txt SEARCH_FILE=critical_job.txt MARK=PRED LIST_MARKS=predecessors_of_critical_job.htm
18
What is a search file? Very simple: Application Id, blank, than operation number
19
BIF Example: AD Docu This BIF creates an application documentation of all applications: DATABASE=AD NETPLAN_TYPE=APP LOGON=mylogon.lgn CREATE_HTML_FILE=f:\tws\application_docu.htm
20
BIF Example: AD Docu Selected topics Application netplan
21
BIF Example: AD Docu Index
22
BIF Example: AD Docu …and the Docu for the next Application
the Docu for the first Application…
23
Did you know that… .. You can perform complex search operations? Mark daily, weekly and monthly applications with different colors
24
Search Example This command sequence marks applications based on periods: See doc for variable names, or take a look to twsgraph.lbl COLOR=WHITE ADRID=* COLOR=YELLOW ADRRPER=DAY COLOR=BLUE ADRRPER=WEEK COLOR=GREEN ADRRPER=MONTH Save to a file
25
Search Example Load search results
26
Search Example Marked applications
PS: Can be done with a BIF file: LOGON=… LIST_FILE=… SEARCH_FILE= CREATE_WMF_FILE
27
Did you know that… Run Cycle data in Application Symbols
.. you can display more than Operation data in Operation symbols? Run Cycle data in Application Symbols Operation data in Application Symbols Special Resource data in Operation Symbols
28
Run Cycles Applications
Run Cycle fields, e.g. period name or offsets, can be listed in Application symbols All periods are listed in the application symbol
29
Operations in Applications
Operation fields, e.g. the jobname, can be listed in Application symbols All jobs are listed in the application symbol
30
Special Resources in Operations
Special resource fields, e.g. the name of the resource, can be listed in Operation symbols Special Resources are listed in Operation symbols
31
How to do that? Select the workstation you want to modify
32
How to do that? Specify which field type you want to insert, e.g. “Special resource field” Select field
33
How to do that? New field is inserted
Right mouse click to change the format of the field
34
How to do that? Select the maximum number of special resources to be shown in the symbol. Change the width of the field.
35
Did you know that… OR Operator
.. selection masks allow more than wildcards like A*B*C*? OR Operator Select applications by specifying jobname, or special resource name YESTERDAY, TODAY and TOMORROW
36
OR Selection the result OR Selection (separator is ‘!’)
37
Select by Special Resources
Select Applications by specifying Special Resource Criteria Click here Click here
38
Improved date input YESTERDAY, TODAY and TOMORROW can be used in all date fields: All jobs from YESTERDAY ... ...that are not complete
39
Improved date input In this example the result is a netplan with all error jobs from yesterday (including all successors)
40
Do you have any questions?
Batch Mode (BIF) Change list layout Complex search operations Display more information in netplan symbols Advanced selection
