Ch 1-6 Basic Constructions
Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. Basic Constructions In this lesson, you will learn another way to construct figures like the one above. Geometry Foundations, pg 49

Ch 1-6 Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. Focus Question What is the result of bisecting a segment or an angle using a straightedge and a compass? You divide the figure into two equal parts without measuring the figure. Geometry Foundations, pg 49

Ch 1-6 Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. A straightedge is a ruler with no markings on it. A compass is a geometric tool used to draw circles and parts of circles called arcs. A construction is a geometric figure drawn using a straightedge and a compass. Geometry Foundations, pg 49

Ch 1-6 Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. Geometry Foundations, pg 49

Ch 1-6 Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. Geometry Foundations, pg 49

Ch 1-6 Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. Geometry Foundations, pg 50

Ch 1-6 Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. Geometry Foundations, pg 50

Ch 1-6 Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. Perpendicular lines are two lines that intersect to form right angles. The symbol means “is perpendicular to.” In the diagram at the right, AB CD and CD AB. Τ Τ Τ Geometry Foundations, pg 50

Ch 1-6 Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. A perpendicular bisector of a segment is a line, segment, or ray that is perpendicular to the segment at its midpoint. In the diagram below, EF is the perpendicular bisector of GH. The perpendicular bisector bisects the segment into two congruent segments. Geometry Foundations, pg 51

Ch 1-6 Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. The construction in Problem 3 will show you how to bisect a line segment. You will justify the steps for this construction in Chapter 4, as well as for the other constructions in this lesson. Geometry Foundations, pg 51

Ch 1-6 Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. Geometry Foundations, pg 51

Ch 1-6 Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. Geometry Foundations, pg 51

Ch 1-6 Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. Geometry Foundations, pg 51

Ch 1-6 Students will be able to make basic constructions using a straightedge and a compass. Geometry Foundations, pg 51
