8. How to Identify MDMA Presumptive testing: Confirmatory testing:
Pure MDMA can be identified in powder form because it glimmers when hit with light in a manner similar to sand
Colorimetric tests use a kit that will cause the drug to change color if present
Confirmatory testing:
Can be analyzed by using a mass spectrometer to determine chemical composition
Near-infrared spectroscopy is used to find MDMA combined in other substances without destruction of evidence
