2. What is a continent?
A continent is a large body of land, that is considerably larger than an island, and consists of many different countries. Continents are also characterized by being surrounded by large bodies of water called oceans or seas.

Australia
Europe
North America
South America

3. Africa
Africa is the home to over a billion people, and many of the animals that we see at the zoo such as elephants, zebras, and giraffes.
There are 54 countries on this continent.
Africa makes up about 20% of the earth’s land area.
The weather here is very warm and tropical.
Africa is the home of the longest rive in the world, the Nile River.

4. Antarctica
Antarctica is most southern continent, and it is also known as the South Pole.
This continent is only home to around 5,000 people.
The weather here is very harsh, frigid, freezing, and full of glacier.
Because it is so cold in Antarctica, there are only a few animals and plants that can live in all of the ice and snow.

5. Asia
Asia is the largest continent of the whole world, and takes up about 9% of earth’s surface.
Asia is also home to the largest population of 43 billion people!
China and Japan are the largest countries in Asia.
The panda bear comes from Asia.

6. Australia Australia is the smallest of the 7 world continents.
It is home to the 6th largest country in the world, known as Australia.
The continent gets its name from its location and shape, and it is known as the “island” continent.
Australia is home to many unique animals that cannot be found anywhere else like the koala bear and the kangaroo!

7. Europe Europe is the second smallest continent
It is home to around 11% of earth’s population, and is the second most densely populated continent.
Europe consists of 50 countries. Russia is the largest country in Europe, but it has territory in Europe and Asia.

8. North america
We live here! This continent is home to the United States and a few other countries.
The continent of North America includes the countries of Canada, Mexico, Latin America, and Greenland.
North America is home to about 565 million people, and is the 3rd largest continent.
As the name gives away, this America is located in the northern hemisphere.
We live in Arkansas. Arkansas is in the United States on the continent of North America.

9. South America
This name also gives away a location. This America is located in the southern hemisphere.
South America is home to the Amazon Rainforest, which is the largest rainforest on the earth and home to many unique plants and species.
Llamas and alpacas originally came from this continent, and they were wild before becoming domesticated.
