Nile River The river runs through Egypt, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Sudan.
It is 4,145 miles long and is the largest and longest river in the world. The river runs south to north. Since Egypt is a desert, the Nile River provided water to the Egyptian people. The Nile River floods during the rainy season which is May thru September. When the river floods, silt which is a mixture of rock and soil rushes northward. The flooded land is rich with nutrients and good for raising crops.
4
Lower Egypt The Nile River flows from South to North and empties into the Mediterranean Sea. The river divides into several branches forming a fan shaped delta. Delta is a very fertile, flat land made of silt left behind as a river drains into a larger body of water.
5
Lower Egypt The Nile Delta Region is known as Lower Egypt.
Lower Egypt is located in Northern Egypt. It is called Lower Egypt because it is the lower or downstream portion of the Nile.
6
Upper Egypt The Nile cuts through stone cliffs and desert sands.
