Natural and inverted order

Natural order A sentence is in natural order when the verb follows the subject. Examples: The baby elephant walked toward its mother. The Spanish conquerors came onto the island.

Inverted order A sentence is in inverted order when the main verb or auxiliary verb (am, is are, was, were, have, has, had, do, did, can, could, may, might, should, will) comes before the subject. Examples: Across the exhibit walked the baby elephant. Have you seen the new elephant at the zoo? There are now three elephants in our zoo. Onto the island came the Spanish conquerors. When did the Spanish conquerors come onto the island?
