2. What is a rain forest?
A rainforest is a habitat for many plants and animals. Half of all the animals in the world live in the rain forest. It is hot and rains every day.

3. Location of Rain Forests
6 % of the world is rain forest. There are rain forests in North America, South America, Asia, Australia, and Africa.

4. Emergent Layer
It is the highest layer in the rain forest. The animals that live in the emergent layer are harpy eagles, butterflies, parrot, and other birds.

5. Toucans
Toucan are very colorful. They have very long beaks. They eat the fruit from the trees. They live in between the canopy layer and the emergent layer.

6. Canopy Layer
It is the layer under the emergent layer. Most of the animals live in the canopy layer. These animals live in the canopy layer: birds, three toed sloth, jaguar, ocelot, monkeys, snakes, frogs, insects, emerald porcupine, and grand boa constrictor.

7. Understory
The understory is shady. The animals that live there are geckos, jaguars, snakes, parrots, macaws, porcupines, monkeys, insects, frogs, spiders, and lizards.

8. Forest floor
It is the lowest layer in the rainforest. It is shady and damp. The animals that live there are tapirs, spiders, snakes, insects, and humans.

9. Deforestation
Deforestation is bad for rainforests. They are cutting down rainforest for furniture and for paper.

10. People of the Rain Forest
The people of the rainforest use the plants for cooking and medicine. There are tribes that live in the rainforest.
