Master Schedule MCHS operates on a hybrid schedule.
Most students take four 90 minute classes a day for one semester (18 weeks). Some students take classes every other day for the entire year. Some courses are “double-blocked” and meet everyday, all year long. All 9th grade students take 8 classes a year. Brown

AP Course Expectations
Intense reading and writing assignments. Student’s desire and ability to work independently and push him/herself academically and intellectually. Engagement in the study of subject matter beyond just learning facts—in-depth analysis and synthesis of material. Students who would like to pursue an AP Capstone Diploma are not required to take an AP course in 9th grade Crawford

General MCHS School info
Common Core Math I is a year long course. Similar to how classes are taken in middle school There is not an Honors Math I course code STEM course over the summer does not replace Foundation of CC Math I 9th grade courses selected based on 7th grade EOG scores Each student registers for 8 courses and 2 alternates 9th grade students taking a World Language must have completed level I in middle school AP courses available: AP World History, AP Human Geography, Hr. Introduction to Engineering*

Registration Students must be zoned for Mallard Creek
Registration cards will be sent home 1 or 2 days prior to counselors registering at the Middle School A counselor will sit with each student to discuss course options and choices Courses are chosen based on 7th grade EOG scores, 8th grade courses, Student Career interests, etc. 9th grade Honors Courses: English I, World History, Earth & Environmental Sci, Biology, *Intro to Engineering, *Math II, *Math III “Doubling up” is not an immediate choice for 9th grade students Students must have 4’s or 5’s on 7th grade Math, Reading & Science EOG’s for Honors Courses Students with 1’s or 2’s on 7th grade English, Math & Science EOG’s will be in yearlong English and Physical Science Student’s with 3’s on English 7 EOG will be able to take Hr. EE and Hr. World History

Registration Con’t All rising 9th grade students will complete a registration card with MS counselor input. HS Counselors meet with students as follows: J.M. Alexander on March 21 James Martin MS on March 21 Piedmont MS on March 21 Ridge Road MS from March 20, 22, 23 All students who are outside of CMS need to complete enrollment and register at Mallard Creek once you receive your placement letter Students at other CMS Middle schools need to speak with the 8th grade counselor about requesting a MCHS registration card through inner school courier mail (Courier #445) Crawford

High School Involvement
9th grade students wanting to play Fall sports have updated physical Check the MCHS website for summer workout and tryout schedule Should attend Fall sports night Students must be 14yrs and 6months to enroll in Drivers Ed Students interested in Marching Band must attend Summer Camp Students should register for this 0 credit course in PowerSchool Internships, Job opportunities available to students 16+ Scholarships: Students should have SAT & ACT scores ready by end of 11th grade so they can begin applying for Scholarships early in senior year.

Academy of Engineering
Students do not have a separate application PLTW Introduction to Engineering Design Honors Designed for 9th or 10th grade students, the major focus of IED is the design process and its application. Through hands-on projects, students apply engineering standards and document their work. Students use industry standard 3D modeling software to help them design solutions to solve proposed problems, document their work using an engineer’s notebook. And communicate solutions to peers and members of the professional community. PLTW = Project Lead the Way Students take 4 courses and complete internship between 11th and 12th grade to be in AOE If students earn a passing score on each final exam they are eligible to graduate with Engineering Diploma and College Credits Academy courses count as an Advanced Placement credit

An opportunity for sophomores who have a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher to complete their high school graduation courses at Mallard Creek in 3 years and in their 4th year take transferable college courses at Central Piedmont Community College. Students could receive high school and college credits, and have access to courses not offered at MCHS Opportunity to experience college life while still in high school Students still participates in extracurricular activities and attend school events such as prom. Students still get to walk with their class in June of their senior year. Flexibility of schedule but transportation not provided College transferable courses through CPCC receive .5 additional quality point vs. 1 additional points for an AP course. Course planning starts during 10th grade College and Career Promise courses also available to 11th grade students with 2.5 GPA
