8 Acceleration studies Is there a subject you are doing particularly well in this year? Is there an area that you are really interested in and would like to study in greater depth? Do you have an idea of your pathway after secondary school? There are many opportunities for you to continue to follow your interests in Year 10. One of these is to choose to complete an accelerated study as part of your elective options.

9 Pathways – Starting in Year 10
VCE – Victorian Certificate of Education These are in-depth studies extending what you have been learning in Years 7 to 9. VCE is generally required if your intended career requires university studies. VET – Vocational Education & Training These are in-depth studies which have a more hands-on focus allowing you to apply your learning in practical situations. VET subjects lead to trades, university, and work. See p110 of the curriculum handbook for VCE subjects and p187 for VET subjects Faith, Education & Service

10 Why should I start VCE in year 10?
I can study a subject which really interests me. I will learn about the demands of Year 11 and Year 12 in one subject rather than in five subjects. I may gain a 10% boost to my ATAR score by having six Year 12 subjects rather than five. You need to be able to commit to a greatly increased workload for your VCE subject and be motivated to keep on top of both your Year 10 and VCE subject requirements.

11 VCE subjects are available in
English Health and PE Humanities Languages The Arts Mathematics Science Technology

12 Why should I start VET in Year 10?
I like learning by doing things I think that I might have an interest in a career which is “hands on” Some of the VET subjects sound really interesting I can use some VET subjects to qualify for VCE units and to contribute to my ATAR score. If you do an off-campus or block-release VET you will miss some classes and have to catch up on missed work in study periods.

13 VET subjects on campus Music Industry (East campus)
Information, Digital Media & Technology Sport and Recreation Building and Construction ( West Campus) Electro technology ( West Campus) Engineering (West Campus) There are also a wide range of VET subjects available off campus at local TAFEs.
