Interoperability – VistA Evolution supports interoperability, which will provide a secure and complete record of a patients health care and treatment
Health Informatics Initiative – VA leaders recognize the rich history of innovation in informatics at VA, and hi2 has helped establish the path to move forward
Initial Deployment in 2014 – Initial Operating Capability (IOC) will be ready at two sites in late September 2014
Providing Tools to Improve Healthcare Delivery – VistA Evolution will evolve VHA’s system architecture to support the daily needs of Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACTs) and more efficiently and effectively deliver team-based, patient-centered care

hi2’s Team-facing Health Management Platform (HMP) meeting in San Diego in January – Participants discussed how to use HMP as part of VistA Evolution’s IOC
Key decisions from meeting:
San Diego is the initial testing ground for clinical use of HMP IOC software; production testing in April
Represent VistA Evolution’s first deployment of clinical functionality
Opportunities for open source collaboration
HMP IOC 2014 Commitment
Search - enables providers to search a patient’s entire medical record across multiple facilities using the Virtual Patient Record (VPR).
Medication Review- allows clinicians to display a full list of the patient’s medications and history pulled from VistA and stored in the VPR.
Infobutton - Enables clinicians to quickly view expert health care information without requiring navigation away from the patient’s electronic chart.
In early January, Drs. Terry Cullen, Paul Nichol and members of the VistA Evolution team along with Marcia Pickard and members of the hi2 team, traveled to the San Diego VAMC to see first-hand how to use HMP as part of VE IOC
Lead related modernization efforts with regard to technical direction and coordination of work

Creation of medication review page
Patient History (Family/Occupational history):
Non-VA Patient Medications Mobile App – Allows patients to add, view, and edit non-VA prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and herbal and dietary supplements. This will eventually integrate with the patient’s electronic record, so clinicians will be up-to-date on patient medications and can spend more time on the conversations that matter. Development efforts were focused on the completion of the Nickname feature (in production) and on the build and integration of the basic calendar function.
Antibiotic Stewardship tools:
CHF Module: automatically assesses care for CHF patients, reducing manual chart review and enabling clinicians to take action immediately at the point of care that matter.
