Lesson Focus Algebra 1 Quarter 1
Mr. Jordan
2
MPA -054 Solving One Step Equations Using ALL operations.
In many of your problems, you will isolate the variable. Make sure you show all steps, you balance your equation, and you cross out your inverses. NEXT SLIDE

MPA -054 Solving One Step Equations Using ALL operations.
Some of your problems will be in word problem form. Use whatever strategy you think is right ( Work backwards, guess and check, make an equation) but write down what you do in your work. Example: Now write a summary in your notes of what you will be learning in this lesson with a few examples. Once you finish this Lesson Focus, you may START LESSON. You may come back to this powerpoint anytime during the lesson to review if needed.

MPA -100 Solving Two Step Equations w/Positive coefficients.
In many of your problems, you will isolate the variable. Make sure you show all steps, you balance your equation, and you cross out your inverses, AND you should always check your answer.. NEXT SLIDE

HA1-125 Solving Equations Using More than ONE property.
In many of your problems, you will isolate the variable, BUT you have to distribute first. Make sure you show all steps, you balance your equation, and you cross out your inverses, AND you should always check your answer.. NEXT SLIDE

HA1-125 Solving Equations Using More than ONE property.
In SOME of your problems, you may have not to distribute before you isolate the variable. Now write a summary in your notes of what you will be learning in this lesson with a few examples. Once you finish this Lesson Focus, you may START LESSON. You may come back to this powerpoint anytime during the lesson to review if needed.

HA1-140 Solving 2 step Equations by Combining Like Terms.
In SOME of your problems, you will have to distribute and then, COMBINE LIKE TERMS before you isolate the variable. Combining like terms means looking for terms that have the same variable and combining them, example: -2x and 5x would combine to 3x. NEXT SLIDE

HA1-140 Solving 2 step Equations by Combining Like Terms.
SOME of your problems require you to distribute a negative sign before you begin. Distributing a negative sign is like multiplying everything inside the parenthesis by (-1). It basically CHANGES the sign of the terms inside. Example: - ( 3x -6) becomes -3x + 6 when you distribute the negative sign through the parenthesis. Look closely at the example below. Now write a summary in your notes of what you will be learning in this lesson with a few examples. Once you finish this Lesson Focus, you may START LESSON. You may come back to this powerpoint anytime during the lesson to review if needed.

HA1-145 Solving Equations w/ variables on both sides .
SOME of your problems will have variables on BOTH SIDES. You might need to distribute first AND then combine LIKE TERMS, THEN MOVE ALL OF THE variables onto one side of the equation and combine. Then it becomes a 2 step equation. example below. Notice, you MOVE variable terms like 3x the same way you move constants like 3 or -5, by using INVERSES and doing the same thing to both sides to balance. NEXT SLIDE

HA1-145 Solving Equations w/ variables on both sides .
SOME of your problems will be word problems. Pay CLOSE attention to those in your lesson and practice. You can use any problem strategy you want to solve them, but make sure you paraphrase the word problem by writing down important math information and ALWAYS show your work. I Now write a summary in your notes of what you will be learning in this lesson with a few examples. Once you finish this Lesson Focus, you may START LESSON. You may come back to this powerpoint anytime during the lesson to review if needed.
