4 RICS GRADUATE INTAKE SURVEY 2011: SUMMARY FINDINGS
Whilst some firms plan their recruitment intake, firms continue to utilise the ‘as-needed’ approach to recruitment. For those firms who are not hiring at present, there is a continued preference for ad-hoc recruitment. Use of the milk round as a source of recruitment has decreased over the last year, with more firms using the ad-hoc method of recruitment, by recruiting on their own and recruiter websites. In line with previous years, the decision to recruit aims to meet several needs, from filling in vacancies to supporting the firms’ strategic succession planning.

5 RICS GRADUATE INTAKE SURVEY 2011: SUMMARY FINDINGS [2]
The structure of the remuneration packages being offered is changing: Graduates are being offered lower basic starting salaries There is a shift from inclusion in companies general benefits schemes to offering other ‘perks’, such as free travel, rewards and sign on schemes, with most offering non-APC related training and learning support. Perceptions of the APC continue to show that it is still a relevant qualification that is a benchmark of competence across a range of business sectors.

6 Real Estate Programmes in UK Universities Poon, Hoxley & Fuchs – Property Management, May 2001 Graduate data provided by RICS Concerns identified: Students lack of commercial awareness Students demonstrate low levels of client care Insufficient practical knowledge required in the curriculum
