Our class charter relates to Children’s Rights We listen carefully to the teacher and our friends. We have the right to an education We always try our best. We will not distract others in the class.

We have the right to be safe We always tuck in our chairs so we don’t trip. We never hurt others. We always walk in the class and sit sensibly on the carpet or on a chair.

Behaviour Management Strategies
Sunny, Cloudy and Stormy Class Dojo – Children are awarded dojo points for being on task, taking on responsibilities, listening carefully to the teacher and participating in lessons. Our class Noiseometer

Behaviour Management Strategies
Calming background Music Clapping Technique The strategies are in line with our school Vision, Values and Aims. Consequences Children can lose minutes of Golden Time or dojo points. They reflect on their behaviour and discuss next steps. A restorative approach is used with children where I ask them what they were thinking when behaving inappropriately and what they could do the next time to make things better.

Handed out on a Monday and due in for the Friday. A note is stuck into the homework jotter. Reading and Spelling. Sometimes Topic or Maths.

Topic – Our topic this term is Our Community (Social Studies). Children will Consider different ways of looking after the school or community and how we can encourage others to care for their environment. SOC 1-08a Explore the community and the groups within it, and identify and consider different types of housing and how they meet our needs. SOC 1-11a Develop an understanding of the importance of local organisations in providing for the needs of our local community. SOC 1-20a

Feedback Writing – Every week the children…
Self-assess their writing against the Success Criteria I also explain to the children my thinking and reasoning for my assessment. Numeracy – Every week the children… Self-assess how they feel they managed their Numeracy by letting me know if they are green, orange or red.

How you can help to talk to your child about their learning
Ask your child what they have been learning at school. We have the How to hold a learning conversation with my child – A Guide for Parents you could use.

How you can help with Spelling and Reading
10-15 minutes of homework a night Reading Listen to your child read aloud everyday. Ask your child questions about their reading book (who, what, where, why, when questions). Look at environmental print with them – posters, leaflets, cereal boxes and the school lunch menu. Spelling Let your child write shopping lists. Practise spelling on a whiteboard, use magnetic letters or an elkonin box (sh-o-p). Encourage your child to try out the different spelling activities for homework.

Curriculum For Excellence Levels
How the levels look in nurseries, primary and secondary schools. The first new thing to note is the introduction of levels. Early level: Nursery and Primary 1 (P1) 1st level: Primary (P2, P3, P4) 2nd level: Primary (P5, P6, P7) 3rd/4th level: First year – Third year (S1, S2, S3) Senior phase: Fourth year – Sixth year (S4, S5, S6)

Curriculum For Excellence Levels
This is a simplified guide as children will move through the levels (and different subjects) at their own pace. For example, a child can be in Primary 4 but progressing quickly, so would perhaps move on to a higher level ahead of other classmates. Reference

Parent/Child Learning Conversation
This is a chance for you to sit down quietly with your child and discuss their learning. Mrs Conner has made a quick reference guide to help you with this. You can do this on the occasions we invite you into school to see your child’s work like tonight and parents night in term 3. You can do this when your child brings their learning stories home in term 2 and term 4.

DYW - Developing our Young Workforce
This year in school we will be looking at ways to prepare our young learners for the workplace. This involves developing skills of communication and team work as well as providing education of the world of work. If you have any skills/contacts that the school could tap into in this regard we would love to hear from you. Please fill in the DYW Note of Interest slip provided at the end of the session.
