Farmer Jones has a flock of 300 sheep. He needs to put them into pens which can hold 14 sheep each. The trouble is, he cant work out how many pens he needs.

3. So, he thinks about what he knows.
I know that 10 lots of 14 are 140 so for every 140 sheep, I will need 10 pens.

4. I have 160 sheep left. That means I can get another 10 pens worth!
So, if I already know how many pens I need for 140 sheep, lets see how many I have left.
300 divided by 14.

5. Great. I only have 20 sheep left
Great! I only have 20 sheep left. So I don’t have enough for 10 more pens.

I can only get one more group of 14. This leaves me with six sheep left over.
