1 The Second Epistle to the Corinthians
2 Cor 11: Christ Life & Ministry Manifests Itself to Others: Part 2 2 Cor 11:9 – “And when I was present with you, and in need, I was a burden to no one, for what I lacked the brethren who came from Macedonia supplied. And in everything I kept myself from being burdensome to you, and so I will keep myself.” When I was present with you Laboring on their behalf! 1 Cor 4:12 - And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure; What kind of need was this, only financial? The brethren in Macedonia, who supplied this need, presumes at least some financial support. Philippi and Thessalonica – Phil 4:15,16 In the Greek, supplied implies more than the usual. What does Paul mean by not being burdensome? 1 Oct 29, Bob Eckel 1

2 The Second Epistle to the Corinthians
2 Cor 11: Christ Life & Ministry Manifests Itself to Others: Part 2 To be a detriment or torpid. so I will keep myself – self pity? Better translated to attend to carefully. 2 Cor 4:10 – “As the truth of Christ is in me, no one shall stop me from this boasting in the regions of Achaia.” How’s this for a response? So Paul equates the truth of Christ in him as a reason to boast in Achaia! Rom 9:1 - I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, 1 Cor 9:16 - For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel! Isn’t the truth of Christ everything? And He’s in each and everyone of us. 2 Oct 29, Bob Eckel 2

3 The Second Epistle to the Corinthians
2 Cor 11: Christ Life & Ministry Manifests Itself to Others: Part 2 Achaia - Roman province embracing all Greece but Thessaly. Corinth was the capital. 2 Cor 11:11 – “Why? Because I do not love you? God knows!” Why? – to what does this relate? Remember, perception is everything. How many times have you responded this way? Love is agapao God knows – eido – it’s a fact! And God is his witness. Acts 15:8 - So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, 2 Cor 11:12 – “But what I do, I will also continue to do, that I may cut off the opportunity from those who desire 3 Oct 29, Bob Eckel 3

4 The Second Epistle to the Corinthians
2 Cor 11: Christ Life & Ministry Manifests Itself to Others: Part 2 an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the things of which they boast.” But what I do, I will also continue to do, Present active indicative and future active indicative – count on it! And why? 1 Cor 9:18 - What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel of Christ without charge, that I may not abuse my authority in the gospel. Notice is what the false deceivers seek is an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the things of which they boast.” And Paul will respond. 2 Cor 11:18 - Seeing that many boast according to the flesh, I also will boast. 2 Cor 11:13 – “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.” 4 Oct 29, Bob Eckel 4

5 The Second Epistle to the Corinthians
2 Cor 11: Christ Life & Ministry Manifests Itself to Others: Part 2 A major issue then and today! Only use of pseudapostolos – false apostles in the NT Just like Satan in verse 14. The motive! Gal 2:4 - And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: And such were promised Mark 13:22 - For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. What makes people so susceptible to such deceit? Is it partial truths? Truth is not partial! Rev 2:2 - I know thy works, and thy labor, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 5 Oct 29, Bob Eckel 5

6 The Second Epistle to the Corinthians
2 Cor 11: Christ Life & Ministry Manifests Itself to Others: Part 2 And they must be noted and stopped. Titus 1:10,11 - For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. 2 Cor 11:14 – “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” As predicted, and notice what is said about Satan, no marvel! Should we be surprised? Compare this to a true marvel. John 9:30 - The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvelous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes. What does this transformation look like? Just like Satan deceived Eve – 2 Cor 11:3. 6 Oct 29, Bob Eckel 6

7 The Second Epistle to the Corinthians
2 Cor 11: Christ Life & Ministry Manifests Itself to Others: Part 2 2 Cor 11:3 - But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. Three ways Satan works: subtle serpent, roaring lion, angel of light Whatever, it’s fact! And this is a spiritual battle. Eph 6:12 - For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Gal 1:8 - But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 2 Cor 11:15 – “Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” It’s Halloween. 7 Oct 29, Bob Eckel 7

8 The Second Epistle to the Corinthians
2 Cor 11: Christ Life & Ministry Manifests Itself to Others: Part 2 And for the false prophets and all unbelievers, the end is according to their works. Is this not only here and/or degrees of eternal punishment? Phil 3:19 - Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things. Whatever, it’s fact! 8 Oct 29, Bob Eckel 8
