Organized by partner agencies Day before and day off, media still running the ads Free advertisements, other organizations used connections with media outlets Flyers Created jointly with Food Bank and other partner organizations Found a translator Took 1.5 weeks to put the flyers together, including design and translation Internal: spreading the word Wu Yee colleagues passed out flyers at other events Participated in community events, handed out flyers E.g. food drive event at local high school, handed out 60 flyers

Tips Communicate early on with the county, and get to know the unit supervisors Do a site visit at the agency and show them your work Use Single Stop’s name to give you credibility Plan ahead for networking and creating coalitions with community agencies

Students apply to SNAP online Kathleen access info through secured online portal SNAP applications 1 pm on Wednesday set aside for SNAP interviews Use SNAP as a hook to get students for other services Intake form used

Supplemental Food Provide supplemental food for all students going through office Not advertised Donations $25 gift cards to Stop & Shop Builds good will with students direct results Bread from Panera donated Media Boston Globe article featuring the collaboration with Greater Boston Food Bank attracted attention of private donor now supporting the small food pantry + gift cards + extra bread donations from Panera with monthly donations

Large-Scale Food Pantry
Created in May 2012 Once a month 12:30 – 1:15pm Students sign up with Kathleen for the service Greater Boston Food Bank brings food in truck unloads it onto table Kathleen + volunteer corps of faculty + staff package the food Food for Free takes leftovers and donates to another food bank Alert all students receiving SNAP Average 140 students + veterans Community members access other community food banks
