You are living in Europe during the Middle Ages. Given the choice, would you rather be the king/queen, a baron/noble, a knight, or a peasant and why?

3. King: ruled the kingdom
Baron/noble: leased land from king, serve royal council, provide knights for war, pay taxes
Knights: military, protect king & baron, leased land from barons
Peasants: land from knights, provided food & service for higher classes, no rights, needed permission to marry

4. Which class would you choose now? Why? (Write for 1 minute)

5. Establishing the Magna Carta
The people were like:
Kings were not effective (didn’t get a lot done)
Lost land
Increased taxes
Arrested people w/o trials

Married Catherine of Aragon.
Became interested in Anne Boleyn.
Divorce not approved. Decided to start the Church of England (1530s).

13. Martin Luther, Henry VIII, and many others were important in the Protestant Reformation. Why might this reformation be important to people in European colonies?
