5th Grade Times May 2017 Ms. Grimm Ms. Kellam Reading and Writing workshop *Students will be using the reading and writing workshop to learn how to research nonfiction topics. *students will have the opportunity to learn how to research history topics they like, and find information about that topic by using different resources. *Students will then take all the information they learned, and write informational essays. *Students will learn how to teach other people about their topic. *The class will learn how to create their own books. Science Students will be learning about composting in an urban setting. Students will create a PowerPoint presentation and poster board to present at a youth conference. Math 4th Grade- Chapter 7 (end) Beginning of Chapter 8 5th Grade- Chapter 7 (end) Students will use what they learned in chapter 6 in order to multiply and divide fractions. Students will begin to explore multiplication of fractions with a whole number. Social Studies Students will learn to compare and contrast how people lived in the past in the Western Hemisphere to today. Students will explore the geography of the Western Hemisphere.
