A sentence will be complete if it has…
A subject Who the sentence is about A predicate An action that tells what the subject is doing If a sentence is missing one of these, it is called an incomplete sentence.

Not a complete sentence The author thought of a story. I like to read stories. What kind of stories do you like to read? Mary enjoys reading adventure stories. Thought of a story. I like to. What kind of stories? Reading adventure stories.

Took place long ago. Incomplete sentence She sat next to a young boy. Complete sentence Were very friendly to her. Her first day of school. Good poems take a long time to write. Do not have to rhyme.
