The slow process of which usable land slowly turns to desert.

African traditions do not put a big importance on education. Governments cannot afford to invest as heavily on education. Due to gender roles, females get even worse educations then males.

The do not have the money to spend on education and prevention Many governments are unstable, and a lot of focus goes to fixing the government not the Aids epidemic.
