Each generates a list of results Webcrawlers or spiders Results may vary between engines Go to yahoo.com & search for great wall of china Notice 1st result How many total hits? Go to google.com & do same search Different result for #1 Note that at the top of many results pages are ADS!

4 Metasearch Engine Sends query to other search engines & shows you results from all in one place Dogpile & Kayak Go to Search for Batman Tells where it searched & found on

6 Boolean Searching AND, OR, NOT searches…
You can use math symbols + or - Recipes AND Chicken AND Spaghetti Recipes +Chicken +Spaghetti Match ALL terms in a document Tennis NOT Wimbledon Tennis –Wimbledon Excludes the 2nd term from the document Dogs OR Cats “global warming” OR “greenhouse effects” Typically broadens your search Looks for either or both on sites

Info might not be reliable Validity & Bias Are they trying to sell you something? Change your opinion? Check other sources to see if it’s valid info Authority Author’s credentials Can you contact/ them? Evaluate the Quality of the Information
