Rational expression A rational expression is a ratio of two polynomials. Essentially a fraction with a polynomial for both the numerator and denominator.

Simplifying rational functions
Simplifying a rational function is essentially reducing the fraction. It must first be completely factored. We can divide out (cancel) and common factors. ******You can never cancel if you are adding/subtracting You can only cancel factors!!!!!
