Definition: Latitude lines are imaginary lines that circle the globe from east to west.  Lines of Latitude are called parallels because the lines parallel, or run in the same direction as the equator. Which way does it run? (West to East) Which way is it measured? (North to South) West East North South

Definition: Longitude lines are imaginary lines that circle the globe from north to south.  Lines of Longitude are called meridians and they run in the same direction as the Prime Meridian. Meridian comes from a Latin word that means midday. The sun crosses each meridian in the middle point between sunrise and sunset. Which way does it run? (North to South) Which way is it measured? (West to East) North South West East

5 Equator Definition: Imaginary line that runs from West to East at 0 degrees latitude along the globe.  Which way does it run? (West to East) Which way is it measured? (West to East)

6 Prime Meridian Definition: Imaginary line that runs from North to South at 0 degrees longitude along the globe.  Which way does it run? (North to South) Which way is it measured? (North to South)
