Lab 5, Part 3: Your Own CO2 Emissions
3
We know: 0.5 kg CO2/kWh So that means 0.5 kg of CO2 emitted per 1 kWh of electricity used Therefore… For 1000 kWh we emit 500 kg of CO2! (1000 kWh used)*(0.5kg/kWh)=500 kg

Example: My grandma lives in Riverhead, Long Island
Example: My grandma lives in Riverhead, Long Island. It is 150 miles round trip for me to go there. If I go once a month 150miles*12trips=1800miles Usually 2 Subaru Forester 24 city/ 32 highway Total Miles: 1800 Miles for me only: 1800 miles/ 2 people = 900 miles Fuel consumption: 900 miles/ 32 mpg = gallons of fuel per year
7
Fuel consumption (see #4): 28.125 gallons of fuel per year
CO2 emissions = (9kg/gallon)*( gallons) = 253 kg CO2 per year due to fuel consumption Distance: 5.5 miles (one way) 11 miles round trip Commute: (11 miles)*(5 days a week) * (52 weeks in a year) = 2860 miles per year commuting to CCNY Emissions = (2860 miles) * (0.073 kg CO2/person/mile) = kg CO2 New York Los Angeles is ~2,800 miles Round trip (x2) = 5600 miles Emissions = (5600 miles) * (0.42 kg/person/mile) = 2,353 kg CO2
8
500 kg CO2 Air travel + public transportation + personal car travel = 2,353 kg CO kg CO kg CO2 = 2814 kg CO2 Home + Transportation = = 3314 kg CO2

My total emissions: 3125 kg CO2
