Europe and Spain.

2 THE POPULATION I The total population: it is a place where a group of people are living in an area. Population by sex: the number of men and women who are in an area are counted. Usually there are more women in life expectancy. Population by age: there are three groups: young (under 16) adult (16 to 64) and elderly (over 64)

3 THE POPULATION II Population by activity: those who can work are active population, those who can not work are elderly and children are called inactive population and those seeking work are called unemployed. Population registers : Census: every 10 years for the entire Spanish population. Pattern: each year to the population of each municipality.

4 CHANGES IN THE POPULATION I
Population increase Birth: number of births in a territory for a year. Immigration: number of people arriving over a year to this country to live in.

Population decrease Mortality: number of deaths in a year in a territory. Emigration: number of people who go from one country to another to live there.

People transform landscapes Plating fields for food. Mining for minerals and rocks. Building houses and hotels.

Rural landscapes. Cultivated fields and meadows, small towns and villages. Industrial landscapes. Factories and repair shops. They can contribute to air pollution.

Urban landscapes. They include office buildings, hotels, apartment buildings etc. Tourist landscapes. These includes hotels, apartment buildings etc.

10 LANDSCAPES IN SPAIN I Oceanic landscapes.
Primary sector: there is livestock farming in pastures and crop farming in small fields. Secondary sector: mining and metallurgy have been substituted by industrial and technology parks. Tertiary sector: Trade and tourism are important activities in these regions.

11 MEDITERRANEAN LANDSCAPES I
INLAND REGIONS Primary sector: dry and irrigated crops are grown in rural areas. Secondary sector: industrial parks are found on the outskirts of the main cities. Tertiary sector: rural and cultural tourism are especially important in this regions.

COSTAL REGIONS Primary sector: irrigated crops and fruit trees are grown in rural areas. Secondary sector: there are many industrial parks near cities. Tertiary sector: trade and tourism are very important activities in these regions.

Primary sector: agriculture production are low. Secondary sector: the main industrial activities are processing farm products and refining oil. Tertiary sector: tourism is the main economic activities.

Mountain landscapes Primary sector: in the valleys, the main crops are vegetables and fruit trees, such as almond trees. Tertiary sector: these regions are attracting more and more tourists.
