5 Server hardware considerations
License costs Processor type Memory – how big, single/dual channel Local storage – ide,sata1,u160,u320 Onboard or add-on h/w for local IO Networking h/w add-on requirements Room for further expansion on motherboard CAA review

8 Network Interfaces CAA review

9 Storage considerations
Cost IO performance Capacity and growth Server load CAA review

10 Storage options direct attached (DAS) network attached (NAS)
advantages: lowest cost, easiest to implement and support disadvantages: difficult to expand, difficult sharing and failover network attached (NAS) advantages: can be shared by different operating systems disadvantages: slower than SAN (more software intensive), limited by ethernet bandwidth storage area network (SAN) Advantages: speed, expandability, separate FC based connectivity Disadvantages: cost CAA review

12 SAN options CAA review

13 Backup Expansion – any hardware solution must have the ability to increase it’s capacity along with the storage without requiring replacement. Transfer rates – this has to be sufficiently high to recover large amounts of data within a reasonable time Strategy - none Disaster recovery plan – in progress but not yet finalized CAA review
