1
Photosynthesis, Transpiration, & Cellular Respiration
2
Key Questions How does photosynthesis work? How does transpiration work? How does cellular respiration work?
3
Essential Question How are photosynthesis and cellular respiration important to us as human beings?
4
How does photosynthesis work?
A plant, in the process of making sugar for food, takes carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air and then releases oxygen gas (O2) into the air.
5
How does photosynthesis work?
Light 6CO2 + 12H2O > C6H12O6 + 6O2 + 6H2O Chlorophyll (Carbon Dioxide) (Water) (Sugar) (Oxygen) (Water)
6
How does transpiration work?
Photosynthesis requires energy from light. Any extra water vapor is also released through the stomata. This is called transpiration.
7
How does cellular respiration work?
Plants can also break down sugars to produce energy, water and carbon dioxide. This process is called respiration and can happen both in darkness and in light.
8
How does cellular respiration work?
C6H12O6 + 6O2 + 6H2O ----> 12H2O + 6CO2 + ENERGY (Carbon Dioxide) (Sugar) (Oxygen) (Water) (Water)
9
